You may or may not have heard about "affiliate programs." If you have, you might have wondered what they are and how they work? Let me try and explain what they actually are and how they can generate money for you.
Basically, an affiliate program (like Amazon) works like this. If you have a website or a blog or you write articles on HubPages, you can apply to be an Amazon affiliate. Once your account is approved by Amazon, you can display Amazon ads on your site/blog/hubpages, about various products that they offer on their website. If a visitor who visits your site/blog/HubPages clicks on one of these banners or links and makes a purchase on Amazon, you get paid a percentage of the price of the product. Usually, its around 4% of the value of the item sold. Obviously, the higher the price of the product, the greater your share. Its a good idea therefore to choose to display highly-priced, popular products on your HubPages, sites or blogs.
If you don't have a site or blog, you can choose to apply for Amazon through your HubPages account. Joining HubPages is free and there is no cost to you. You can view a sample HubPage here. (http://hubpages.com/_24k8o283wulxl/hub/What-will-the-world-be-like-in-100-years-). You can then apply for Amazon and choose products to display alongside articles that you write on HubPages. As with all affiliate programs, you need to drive as much traffic to your blog/site/HubPages as possible to maximize your earnings. There are a lots of Hubs on HubPages that give a step-by-step approach to applying for the Amazon Affiliate Program once you've signed up for a HubPages account.

Earn Money Through HubPages
HubPages is an online publishing site that allows users to register free and write articles about anything under the sun. You can write about any topic that interests you or answer requests of other users. How does one earn money using HubPages you might ask? Well, you can display your Google Adsense ads on any of the Hubs (articles you write). So, when a visitor clicks on any of the ads displayed on HubPages you earn.
Alternatively, you can display Amazon, eBay ads too on your articles in HubPages. There are many Hubs (articles) on HubPages that explain how to apply for an account with Amazon and eBay. I would explain how Amazon and eBay affiliate programs work in another blog, but basically if any visitor on your article page clicks on a link to these websites and makes a purchase, you get paid a percentage of the cost of the article/product.
So, HubPages is a great tool to earn from your existing Adsense and affiliate accounts.

This is how a Hub (or article) on HubPages looks like. Joining HubPages is free and takes no money at all. And if you have an Adsense account, you can right away activate your Adsense ads to appear on any Hubs you create.

Earn Money Through Adsense
What is Adsense you might ask? Well, Adsense is Google's advertising program that lets website owners and bloggers earn money by placing Google ads on their webpages. Its by far the best option for website owners and bloogers to earn revenue from their websites/blogs. Website/blog owners get paid each time a visitor to their site clicks on any of the Google ads displayed on their site/blog.
So, how does one get started - especially if you don't already have a website/blog of your own?
The first step of course is to create a website or blog. This is far easier than most people think. Just create a Google account and you can log into Blogger and create a blog of your own. Alternatively, you can create a website. Just type in "freewebs" in the Google search engine and it will take you to a site where you can create your own free website.
The second step is to create good content on this website you have created. Its a good idea to stick to subjects you know something about, or are passionate about. I am sure everyone has one topic or subject close to his/her heart, so just focus on that and create some good content. It could be a journal or it could be a site providing information about something. The more content you have on the site - the better. Don't create sites that have just links or hardly any content. Make your site/blog content rich.
The third step would be popularize your site/blog by letting others know. You could do this on social networking sites like Facebook, StumbleUpon, Digg or del.icio.us. There are many other social networking sites out there as well. You can find quite a bit of them here (www.socialmarker.com). You need to create an account on all of these social networking sites and then you can submit your blog/website to them individually.
Now that you've done all of the above, you can go ahead and apply to Adsense (https://www.google.com/adsense/). All you have to do is to fill in a simple form with the relevant information and then you wait.....
Hopefully, Adsense would respond favorably and approve your account. Once you have your adsense account, you'd have to put in the Adsense code into your webpages. Then save! Voila! Ads begin showing on your webpages after a few hours or a day or two.
Each time a visitor visits your website and clicks on those Google ads, you get paid a specific amount. It could range from a few cents to a dollar or two per click. Obviously, the key to earning substantially is to have more visitors come to your site and obviously more visitors would come to your site only if you aggressively promote your site on as many social networking websites as you can.
You'd have to put in a lot of effort initially in creating the site or blog and then promoting it on social networking sites. But, once you start getting a steady stream of visitors to your site/blog, you can sit back and see your account earn money. Adsense is the best option for website or blog owners to earn revenue.
